In 1964 parents were concerned about lack of public transport between Albany, Greenhithe, Glenfield and Northcote. Three fathers, Tom Cook, Alec Walker and Merv Papas approached the Northcote Rugby League with a plan which was given unqualified approval by Northcote RLFC.

A team of 16, ten year old boys was registered with ARL under the name of Albany/Glenfield and played in jerseys lent by Northcote RLFC. The team was affiliated to Northcote RLFC.

Albany showgrounds became the base for the team. Before each home game the grounds were cleared by Tom Cook as the grounds were shared with Albany Pony Club.

In 1965 Albany/Glenfield nominated two teams and shifted training to Kaipatiki Park. In 1996 the first formal committee was formed and the name of the new club was Glenfield Rugby League Football Club. 1967/68 saw many struggles with Takapuna City Council re our case for facilities at Kaipataki Park.  1969 the first Senior B teams were fielded with reasonable success winning 6, losing 6 and w draws. The Glenfield Hall became the clubs regular meeting place for after match and socials. We had 13 teams taking the field.

1970/71 McFetridge Park was registered as the temporary home ground for 17 teams. This was shared with Glenfield Soccer and only made possible through the efforts of Mr Arthur McFetridge the donor of the park to North Shore City Council.

Sunnynook Park was being developed and Glenfield RLFC were offered the option to purchase building sites for a total of $22,000. In 1971 three sites were purchased and Auckland Rugby League applied for long term use of Sunnynook Park. North Shore City Council allocated 2 field and 1 training field and training commenced at Sunnynook Park in 1972. Building of the clubrooms commenced in November. Lights were installed in February 1973 and the clubrooms had its first official use for the AGM in November. 1975 the club fielded 23 teams from Schoolboys to Senior B. 1997 the grounds were completed and the car park was sealed.

In 1989 Auckland Rugby League granted Glenfield RLFC senior status.
